Usman is an international researcher who has engaged in development research in both Pakistan and Afghanistan, including on the needs of displaced persons and the cross cutting issues of socioeconomic vulnerability, contested resources and limited livelihood choices, since 2005. Usman has conducted vulnerability assessments of communities with displaced or newly returned Afghan families aimed at identifying mitigating vulnerability, strengthening resilience, providing project partners with detailed recommendations on future interventions, and whilst at GIZ, was involved in field research in eight provinces, assessing the impact and effectiveness of projects focused on peace-building in conflict-prone areas.
