CASE 1

PROBLEM

A parent is physically assaulting daughter.

POMA INTERVENTION

PoMA went initiated in-home family mediation sessions and coached the parents in the use of alternatives to physical force (PoMA worked with the family to understand the leading causes behind the abuse and how to use better communication techniques rather than violence)

OUTCOME

Family worked together and collaborated to not use violence as a response, but communication.


CASE 2

PROBLEM

A young girl is suffering mentally and is hospitalized after attempting suicide by self-immolation.

POMA INTERVENTION

PoMA visited her at the hospital and provided emergency psychological first aid not only to her on an individual basis, but also together with her family.

OUTCOME

The individual is now flourishing and leading survivor-led counselling groups for women suffering from suicide ideation.


CASE 3

PROBLEM

A young girl released from detention was unable to access education and return to her previous studies due to the time she had spent away from the community.

POMA INTERVENTION

PoMA worked with her family and child protection networks to find alternative schools. PoMA found a school willing to enrol the girl and continues to support her through mentoring.

OUTCOME

The student will sit for her school exams in order to avoid a return to detention. PoMA will also provide an internship and practical learning experience for her, which will help the teenager to gain workplace experience to improve her future prospects.


CASE 4

PROBLEM

Children in detention are often separated from their families. PoMA identified two young boys under the age of six without parental guardians.

POMA INTERVENTION

PoMA coordinated and worked with ministries and government bodies throughout Afghanistan to identify and reunify the children with a parent or guardian.

OUTCOME

The two boys have been released from detention and placed in a shelter with their older sister awaiting their mothers release.
